Dreaming of becoming cabin crew? An Open Day is your first big opportunity to step into the world of aviation — and maybe even get your foot in the door.
Here’s everything you need to know to prepare, impress, and stand out from the crowd.
An Open Day is a public recruitment event where airlines invite aspiring cabin crew to:
Learn about the job
Meet real recruiters
Hand in their CV
Take part in on-the-spot assessments
Open Days are free to attend and often don’t require pre-registration — just show up, look sharp, and be ready.
Here’s what you can expect step by step:
The recruiters will greet the group and share info about the airline and the cabin crew lifestyle.
You’ll learn about job requirements, career growth, benefits, and what the airline looks for in its crew.
A chance to ask questions, take notes, and listen closely to what recruiters say (you can refer to this later!).
You’ll hand in your printed CV. Some recruiters may ask questions on the spot, so be prepared to talk about your experience.
Group tasks, communication exercises, role-playing, or language testing may be included to evaluate your personality and teamwork skills.
If you stand out in the earlier stages, you might be invited to a short interview on the same day.
At the end, recruiters will explain how to proceed — whether online applications, assessments, or waiting for an email.
Most Open Days are open to anyone who meets the basic requirements:
Age: 21+
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Language: Fluent English is a must (more languages = a bonus!)
Customer Service: Experience in hospitality is helpful but not required
Physical Fitness: You should be able to meet the physical demands of the role
Women: Knee-length skirt or dress, blouse, blazer, tidy hair, natural makeup
Men: Suit, tie, clean-shaven or neat beard, polished shoes
Printed CV (multiple copies)
Passport copy or ID (if requested)
Pen and small notebook
A positive, can-do attitude!
Open Days can last a few hours or most of the day, depending on the number of candidates. Bring water, stay focused, and be patient — you might be observed the whole time.
Face-to-face connection with real recruiters
Opportunity to showcase your personality
Learn about the airline’s expectations and culture
Faster application process if assessments are held onsite
Network with other candidates and gain insight into their prep
Large crowds (hundreds of applicants)
Tight competition for limited interview spots
Less time for individual attention
Travel costs and time investment
Fatigue — the day can be long and mentally draining
💡 Note: If your CV is not selected, airlines like Emirates and Etihad often require you to wait 3–6 months before reapplying.
Do your research on the airline beforehand
Practice answering interview questions out loud
Rehearse your body language and posture
Pack your documents and outfit the night before
An Open Day could be the turning point in your cabin crew journey. It’s your chance to shine in person, show off your personality, and begin the exciting path to a sky-high career.
So dress your best, prep with confidence — and go get that dream job!
